BBS to speak at International “Saved by a Song” Conference.

I’m very pleased to announce that i have been invited to speak at the “Saved by a Song” 2024 Conference organsied by ICMP London – The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance

There is a range of amazing people exploring The Transformative Power of Songwriting (Including a keynote from the incredible Mary Gauthier).
I will be sharing some of my experiences from The Swan Song Project and looking at the theme of If Songwriting can help with acceptance of death. It’s going to be fun.

“You Will See The Light” is Out Now.

The New Album is Recorded!

Over the weekend just gone myself and the wonderful people pictured above with me recorded the songs that will make up “You Will See The Light”, my first album of new songs since 2017.

There were many times over the years when I thought I might never write and release another album. I had some major crises of confidence and some real mental health challenges that made me want to not play anymore. I would worry so much about making “Good” music and what people will think of my songs. I am very happy say I got past those times and am in a much better place now. I hold a deep belief about the power of creativity and how it is something everyone should enjoy regardless of what anyone else thinks of it. Rick Rubin puts it much more eloquently:

“I am doing me, and I am showing you who I am, and you can like it or not but either way, this is still how I see it.”

1 of the songs I actually wrote in 2020 and forgot about and all of the others I wrote over the last few months. I think it was March when I properly decided I was going to commit to writing a new album and 6 months later here we are.

I was a bit nervous about going back into the studio. I had found studio recording very stressful in the past but was determined to enjoy the process this time. I was asking a lot of these musicians as well, 12 songs in 2 days without a great deal of time to prepare. I also wanted to do the vast majority of the recording live (Us all playing at the same time). They all did absolutely amazing jobs and brought a level of musical sophistication and beauty to the songs that doesn’t come naturally to me when writing. They were also just a pleasure to spend the time with.

So a huge thank you to:

Sarah Danger Ward – Guitar

Sleepy Kev Bishop – Harmonica

Siobhan Donnelly – Backing Vocals

Kieran O Malley – Fiddle

David Whitaker – Production

I’m going to have a few days not thinking about the songs now and then go in to work on the mixing with Dave later in the week. Once that’s done we’ll start thinking about actually releasing the thing.
