The Swan Song Project
The Swan Song Project is a registered charity (1178096) that helps people facing the end of their lives or dealing with a bereavement to write and record an original song.
The charity was started by Ben Buddy Slack in 2017.
“When my Grandma died, I regretted not recording her singing with us. Then I thought how nice it would have been if she’d had the chance to write a song herself before she died. I wondered what she would have said in it and imagined me and the family would still play it when we get together. Then it dawned on me that I knew how to write songs with people so I thought I’ll see if other people approaching the end of their lives might like the chance to write a song.” BBS
The Swan Song Project now works with people across the country helping them to leave their legacy in song. Ben has personally written over 100 Swan Songs and now leads a team of songwriters delivering this work.
The charity has recieved widespread recognition and earned Ben several award nominations, a bench dedicated to him in his local park and high profile supporters such as Chris Evans.
Ben also hosts a podcast for The Swan Song Project where he speaks to other songwriters about their processes and their experiences of bereavement. You can find all episodes on the Swan Song Website or wherever you get your podcasts from.
